Finished another season of that DailyGammon tournament with less good results than I would have wanted. Oh well. But that means there is plenty of interesting positions where I badly failed to pick the right move or cube action that I can share here.

Here’s the first one – a position where the correct move was one I immediately mentally excluded

Software-wise things seem to be calm on iOS. Checking for new interesting backgammon apps, but nothing new pops up. Which is strange, if you think about it. Yes, Backgammon was the first serious game conquered by artificial neural networks. But you would think that the new NNs based on the ideas of AlphaGo would easily beat the early generation of TDGammon-based engines that XG2, BGBlitz and the others are using… So where’s AlphaGammon?
